Basketball Recap: Brenham Falls Despite Big Games from Antyianna Lang and Janiyah Mathis

Brenham lost against Huntsville back in February of 2018 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Brenham Cubs might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Huntsville Hornets an easy 61-35 win. While losing is never fun, the Cubs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 607th, while the Hornets are ranked 288th).

Janiyah Mathis and Antyianna Lang certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Mathis posted 12 points, while Lang almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds. Lang is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played.

Brenham is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-11. As for Huntsville, their victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-8.

Brenham and Burleson will round out the year against one another at at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. As for Huntsville, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Montgomery at 6:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
