There's no place like home for Chaparral, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They secured an 85-80 W over the Arizona College Prep Knights on Thursday. The Firebirds' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Arizona College Prep's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Asher Perez, who went 9 for 17 on his way to 23 points and eight assists. That's the most assists Perez has posted since back in February of 2024. Dom Berumen was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 16 points and five steals.

Chaparral moved to 5-10 with that win, which also ended their eight-game losing streak. As for Arizona College Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.

Chaparral and Arizona College Prep could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings. Chaparral (ranked 141st) will meet Notre Dame Prep (ranked ninth) at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. Meanwhile, Arizona College Prep (ranked 116th) will meet Ironwood (ranked 14th) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
