Baseball Game Preview: Owensboro Catholic Aces vs. Henderson County Colonels

The Owensboro Catholic Aces will take on the Henderson County Colonels at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Owensboro Catholic managed to slip by Owensboro the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Aces lost 7-1 to the Red Devils on Thursday. The Aces have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Owensboro Catholic saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Hood, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that Hood has snagged this season.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Henderson County and Madisonville-North Hopkins meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Colonels came up short against the Maroons, falling 14-7.

Henderson County also got a good showing from Jaxson Kellen, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave Kellen a new career-low.

On the hitting side, Maxton Meadows and Reed Clark did some serious damage despite the final result: Meadows got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one double and one RBI, while Clark went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Corben Throgmorton was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one double.

Henderson County's defeat dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Owensboro Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 14-11.

Owensboro Catholic took their win against Henderson County when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Aces repeat their success, or do the Colonels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
