Softball Game Preview: Bethlehem Eagles vs. Eastern Eagles

Bethlehem will head out to face off against Eastern at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Bethlehem is headed into the matchup having just suffered their closest loss since April 26, 2025 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Nelson County by a score of 4-2. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Cardinals recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Bethlehem saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jasmine Mitchell, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Eastern faced Ballard in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Eagles took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bruins.

Ava Newell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

Eastern's defeat dropped their record down to 20-6. As for Bethlehem, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 14-8.

Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bethlehem hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. However, it's not like Eastern struggles in that department as they've averaged .396. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Bethlehem got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March of 2022 against Eastern by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bethlehem since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
