League recap: Nashville surprises Malvern

Nashville scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Malvern, 52-21. At the time, the Leopards were ranked 21st in the state, while the Scrappers were 35th.

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Ashdown, who took down 74th ranked Ashdown, 54-41. Riley Perkins threw for 435 yards and eight touchdowns in the win.

Austin Sherman was the best wideout in 4A Region 7 this week as Arkansas Baptist beat the Panthers. Sherman tallied five receptions for 172 yards. Dakota Newkirk helped Arkansas Baptist's passing attack out by catching nine balls for 139 yards.

Starnes York made the biggest impact on defense this week as Ashdown fell to the Eagles. The 6-foot-0 sophomore grabbed one sack.

Jakaree Gaines was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 14 carries, he ran for 113 yards as Nashville defeated Matt Richardson's team. LaMichael Pettway also contributed to the rushing game with 39 yards on the ground.

Brad Helm's team's Perkins and Newkirk have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Perkins has thrown for 2939 yards this season, while Newkirk has 70 catches for 1300 yards. Gaines from the Scrappers leads the league in rushing with 863 yards.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Malvern takes on Arkadelphia. John Fogleman's team has allowed 164 points this season, while the Badgers have given up 148.

Nashville was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting the Leopards. The Scrappers came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 35 last week.
