Softball Game Preview: Camden Fairview Cardinals vs. Magnolia Panthers

For the second straight game, Camden Fairview will face off against Magnolia. The Cardinals will head out on the road to take on the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Camden Fairview comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

It was a proper cat-fight when Camden Fairview faced off against Magnolia on Tuesday. The Cardinals came up short against the Panthers, falling 19-4.

For Magnolia's part, Kloey Basinger made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Basinger has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rayleigh Herron, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, five runs, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sophie Smith, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Magnolia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Magnolia is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Camden Fairview, their loss dropped their record down to 0-16.
