Basketball Recap: Lakewood Find Success

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Lakewood ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They snuck past the Southeast Seminoles with a 58-53 victory. This was payback for the Spartans, who suffered an 82-72 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Southeast's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jakyrin Smith, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 20 points and five assists. Jalen Byrd was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.

Lakewood's win bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Southeast, they moved to 10-5 with that defeat, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Lakewood didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 64-54 loss against East Lake on the 11th. As for Southeast, they will venture away from home to challenge Cardinal Mooney at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Cardinal Mooney knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Southeast likes a good challenge.
