Baseball Game Preview: Rodriguez Mustangs vs. Vanden Vikings

The Rodriguez Mustangs are taking a road trip to challenge the Vanden Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rodriguez is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

Last Thursday, Rodriguez came up short against River City and fell 8-5. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sean O'Connell made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Rodriguez's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Benjaman 'BJ' Smith, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Even though they lost, Rodriguez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. This was only their first loss (out of five games) when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Vanden suffered their closest loss since February 26th on Friday. They fell just short of Pinole Valley by a score of 8-6. The Vikings have struggled against the Spartans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Vanden saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kekoa Grinton, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Rodriguez's record is now 7-6. As for Vanden, their record is now 5-11.

Rodriguez came up short against Vanden when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 6-2. Can Rodriguez avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
