Softball Recap: Steele Comes Up Short

The matchup between Steele and Mentor on Saturday hardly resembled the 2-1 effort from their previous meeting. The Comets took a 13-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cardinals. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Comets, who until this matchup were averaging 3.91 runs allowed.

Hailey Cleaver led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Lymer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Steele has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season. As for Mentor, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Coincidentally, Steele and Mentor will both be playing Chardon the next time they take the field. The Comets will head out to face the Hilltoppers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Cardinals will play them later in the day, at 3:00 p.m.
