Softball Recap: Copper Canyon Comes Up Short

Copper Canyon extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 3-13. They lost 28-11 to the La Joya Community Lobos. Even though they lost, the Aztecs' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.3 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Marivel Robles made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Vida Mendoza, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one stolen base.

As for La Joya Community, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-14. The result was nothing new for the Lobos, who have now won seven contests by 13 runs or more so far this season.

On La Joya Community's side, they let Anaya Romero and Lillyanna Rosalez run wild. Romero fired off two home runs, five runs, and four RBI while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances, while Rosalez went 4-for-5 with one home run, five runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave Rosalez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alianna Alejandro, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Copper Canyon will face off against Glendale at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.47 runs per game on average), something the Aztecs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for La Joya Community, they are taking a road trip to face off against Washington at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
