Softball Game Preview: Pineville Rebels vs. West Monroe Rebels

Pineville and West Monroe are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. Pineville will head out to face off against West Monroe at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Pineville's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Ouachita Parish as Pineville made off with a 7-0 win. The victory was nothing new for the Rebels as they're now sitting on six straight.

The result came thanks to Addalyn Burch's shutout, as she gave up just six hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Briley Byrnes, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Cassidy Sicuro also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Pineville hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, West Monroe got the win against Ruston on Tuesday by a conclusive 14-2.

Pineville pushed their record up to 20-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for West Monroe, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-11.

Pineville took their victory against West Monroe when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 8-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pineville since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
