Football Game Preview: Sumter Gamecocks vs. Westwood Redhawks + How To Watch

The Sumter Gamecocks will head out on the road to square off against the Westwood Redhawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Sumter is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.

Sumter is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Carolina's top teams: Ridge View, who was ranked 12th at the time (Sumter was ranked 17th). The Gamecocks walked away with a 36-29 victory over the Blazers on Friday. Sumter's win was all the more impressive since the Blazers were averaging only 14.11 points allowed on the season.

Sumter's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Franklin Richardson, who rushed for 91 yards and four TDs, and Cayon Gordon, who rushed for 131 yards and one score on only 12 carries. Those four rushing touchdowns gave Richardson a new career-high.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 34 points the game before, Westwood was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They fell 17-7 to West Florence. The contest marked the Redhawks' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Sumter's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Westwood, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-3.

Everything came up roses for Sumter against Westwood in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 65-28 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Redhawks' Jovan Howard, who rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns.
