Basketball Recap: William Whittingstall's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Alamo Heights over Pieper

Alamo Heights has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 59-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pieper Warriors on Tuesday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mules this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 58-52 back in December of 2024.

Alamo Heights lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being William Whittingstall, who posted nine points. Gunnar Jones was another key player, going 5 for 7 on his way to 11 points.

Even though they lost, Alamo Heights smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pieper only pulled down four offensive rebounds.

Pieper's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was MAYSON THOMAS, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was PARKER GOLSCH, who went 5 of 11 en route to 18 points.

Alamo Heights' loss dropped their record down to 23-7. As for Pieper, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-11 record this season.

Alamo Heights will host New Braunfels at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. New Braunfels knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Alamo Heights likes a good challenge. As for Pieper, they are taking a road trip to square off against Boerne at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Pieper will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
