Basketball Recap: Pine Crest's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Friday

It was a proper cat-fight when Pine Crest challenged Barron Collier on Friday. The Pine Crest Panthers walked away with a 55-42 win over the Barron Collier Cougars. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Cougars are ranked 240th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Isabella Sangha, who dropped a double-double on 33 points and 12 rebounds. The game was her sixth in a row with at least ten points. Franky Garfi was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 12 boards.

Barron Collier's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dylan Shapiro, who posted four points in addition to eight rebounds and six assists. Another player making a difference was Peyton Heffelfinger, who had 12 points and five boards.

Pine Crest's record is now 13-4. As for Barron Collier, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-9.

Pine Crest didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 60-53 victory against Palmetto Ridge on the 25th. As for Barron Collier, they will face off against Bishop Verot at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Bishop Verot has won six straight at home, while Barron Collier won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
