Softball Recap: Peotone Takes a Loss

Peotone easily dispatched Lisle on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Blue Devils fell just short of the Marian Catholic Spartans by a score of 4-2 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Blue Devils have suffered since May 15, 2024.

Sophie Klawitter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Peotone saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Autumn Clay, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

With the loss, Peotone broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-7. As for Marian Catholic, their record now sits at 7-4.

Looking ahead, Peotone will head out on the road to face off against Dwight at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Devils are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Marian Catholic, they will be playing at home against Saint Viator at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.47 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
