Football Recap: Roosevelt Roughriders vs. Holy Family Tigers
Roosevelt won the last time they faced Holy Family, and things went their way on Friday too. The Roosevelt Roughriders enjoyed a cozy 38-21 victory over the Holy Family Tigers. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Roughriders.
Roosevelt got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Milo Pascual out in front who rushed for 71 yards and three touchdowns, and also picked up 36 receiving yards. Another pass catcher making a difference was Noah Lucero, who picked up 167 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Roosevelt's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. Pascual picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown.
When it comes to explaining why Holy Family lost, don't look at Monte Samaras. Despite the final result, he rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries, and also threw for 221 yards and two touchdowns. Samaras got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run and that went for an incredible 80 yards. 91 of those passing yards were hauled in by Anderson Osburn.
Roosevelt's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Holy Family, the loss snapped their winning streak at 11 games dating back to last season and leaves them with a 1-1 record.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roosevelt will head out to take on Ponderosa at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Holy Family, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Lewis-Palmer at 7:00 p.m. on September 20th.
