Recap: Custer County Bobcats vs. Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds
After a string of three wins, the Custer County Bobcats's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 42-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sangre de Cristo. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Custer County in their matchups with Sangre de Cristo: they've now lost five in a row.
Several Bobcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Christopher Mullett, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mullett has scored all season. Grant Rusk was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds and seven steals.
Even though they lost, Custer County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sangre de Cristo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kolby Shellabarger, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaiden Smit, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds.
Custer County's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Sangre de Cristo, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Custer County will take on Cripple Creek-Victor at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Sangre de Cristo, they will be playing at home against La Veta at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant against one another: Isiah Rodriguez and Smit.
