Volleyball Recap: West Branch's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

West Branch hadn't beaten Girard on the road since September 14, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. The Warriors came out on top against the Indians by a score of 3-1. For the Warriors, this counts as revenge for the 3-2 win the Indians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

West Branch had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 15-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-16.

Kendelle Hoopes paced West Branch's offense, picking up 15 kills. Hoopes got some help from Elly Biskup and her 13 assists. Hoopes was also solid from the service line: she led the team with seven aces.

Despite the loss, Girard had strong showings from Kyra Bell, who had 17 digs and five aces, and Chloe Plant, who had 24 assists and nine digs. Plant has been hot, having posted 12 or more assists the last six times she's played. Keely Meszaros was another key player, getting ten digs and one assist.

The victory snapped West Branch's losing streak at three matches and leaves them with a 12-9 record. As for Girard, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.

West Branch will head out on the road to square off against Hubbard at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Girard, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Salem at 6:30 p.m.
