Basketball Game Preview: Hawthorne Hornets vs. Chiefland Indians

Hawthorne is 8-0 against Chiefland since December of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Hawthorne Hornets will challenge the Chiefland Indians. Hawthorne is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.

Hawthorne is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Chiefland: they outscored them in every quarter. Everything went Hawthorne's way against Chiefland on Thursday as Hawthorne made off with a 62-38 victory. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while the Indians are ranked 445th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hawthorne's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dacarion Debose, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 21 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Those 21 points gave Debose a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chasion Wilson, who posted eight points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Hawthorne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive contests.

Hawthorne's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.1 points per game. As for Chiefland, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-9.
