Basketball Recap: Grandview Prep Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Zack Burrow and Jaden Giron

Grandview Prep lost against St. John Paul II Academy back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Grandview Prep Pride fell 63-53 to the St. John Paul II Academy Eagles.

Despite the defeat, Grandview Prep had strong showings from Jaden Giron, who went 8 of 12 on his way to 22 points, and Zack Burrow, who went 5 for 9 en route to 12 points and four steals. Those 22 points gave Giron a new career-high. Mike Jennings was another key player, putting up five points and five assists.

Dior Johnson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for St. John Paul II Academy, going 12 of 19 en route to 29 points along with six boards and three steals. Johnson has been hot, having posted 18 or more points the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Kaufman, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.

Grandview Prep's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-6. As for St. John Paul II Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season.

Grandview Prep has already played their next game (against Olympic Heights), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. St. John Paul II Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 57-46 victory against Jupiter on the 28th.
