Football Recap: York Comes Up Short

York was the 36-0 winner over Standing Bear when they last played one another back in September of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Dukes took a 21-16 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Grizzlies on Thursday. Despite 53 more yards than the Grizzlies, the Dukes couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Despite the loss, York still got an impressive performance from Emmitt Dirks, who rushed for 83 yards and one score on only 11 carries, and also threw for 131 yards and one TD.

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 2.8 yards per carry. The team can thank Colt Eimermann for the heroic effort on defense: he. York didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.8.

A big part of Standing Bear's win came down to the chemistry between Hayden Holdren and his top target Jase Coke. Holdren threw for 184 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Coke picked up 108 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Coke also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making three total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending two passes.

This is the second loss in a row for York and nudges their season record down to 1-2. As for Standing Bear, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

York wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 20-6 victory against Beatrice on the 19th. As for Standing Bear, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 33-13 loss against Gretna East on the 18th.
