Basketball Recap: King's Christian Continues Home Dominance on Friday

King's Christian's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. Everything went their way against the St. Michael the Archangel Warriors as the King's Christian Knights made off with a 59-38 win. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Knights considering their 22-point performance the matchup before.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead King's Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lily Welsh, who posted 20 points and four steals. That's the most points Welsh has posted since back in January of 2024. Vivian Galvis was another key player, putting up eight points along with seven steals and five assists.

King's Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Despite the loss, St. Michael the Archangel still got an impressive performance from Janaye Martinez, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. Martinez is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last 30 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jennifer Love-Villatoro, who put up 13 points and six boards.

King's Christian pushed their record up to 3-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 21.2 points per game. As for St. Michael the Archangel, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

King's Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 28-24 defeat against The Pilgrim Academy on the 7th. As for St. Michael the Archangel, they will face off against Grace Prep at 4:30 p.m. on January 10th.
