Preview: Basic Wolves vs. Green Valley Gators
The Basic Wolves will be playing at home against the Green Valley Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Two weeks ago, Basic faced Foothill in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Basic took down Foothill 49-32. The victory was familiar territory for Basic who now have five in a row.
Anthony Vega had a dynamite game for Basic, throwing for 288 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also punching in three touchdowns on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Zuri Whiters, who picked up 105 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Green Valley ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They pulled ahead with a 40-39 photo finish over Sierra Vista. The score was all tied up 9-9 at the break, but Green Valley was the better team in the second half.
Green Valley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jack Thow out in front who threw for 176 yards and four touchdowns. Theo Edquilang was another key contributor, picking up 86 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Basic to 7-2 and Green Valley to 4-6.
Basic came out on top in a nail-biter against Green Valley in their previous matchup back in October, sneaking past 19-17. Will Basic repeat their success, or does Green Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
