Baseball Recap: Martinsville Pirates vs. Broaddus Bulldogs
Martinsville had lost ten straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-7 to make it 11. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 12-2 to the Broaddus Bulldogs, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, with their most recent defeat being a 12-2 loss on Tuesday.
As for Broaddus, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-8-1. Considering they have won six contests by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
For Broaddus' part, Aiden Sowell was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Sowell has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Caysin Hamilton and Ransom Sowell did most of the damage at the plate: Hamilton went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Ransom went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.
