Softball Recap: Columbia Central Continues Home Dominance on Monday

There's no place like home for Columbia Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Michigan Center Cardinals a 7-0 shutout on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Golden Eagles, who have now won eight matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Hailey Wetherby made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabby Gaydosh, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs. Another player making a difference was Rylee Knapp, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Columbia Central's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Michigan Center, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbia Central will host Hanover-Horton at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Michigan Center, they will be playing at home against Manchester at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
