Basketball Recap: Westlake Takes a Loss

Westlake lost against Lehi back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Westlake Thunder took a 48-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lehi Pioneers.

Despite the loss, Westlake saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Janiece Sikander went 5 for 11 en route to 13 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Sikander is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 13 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ava Chaney, who posted seven points.

Among those leading the charge was Mckenzie Jepson, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 14 points and five boards. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Ellie Hill was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Westlake's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Lehi, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Westlake didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-25 victory against Pleasant Grove on the 17th. As for Lehi, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 58-45 loss against Skyridge on the 17th.
