Volleyball Recap: Sedgwick County Cougars vs. Dolores Bears
With a playoff win on the line, Sedgwick County rose to the challenge on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Dolores Bears 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since October 15, 2024.
Lainee Nein paced Sedgwick County's offense, picking up 27 kills. Nein got some help from Addison Renquist and her 23 assists. Renquist also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Ryen Carlson, each putting up two.
Despite the loss, Dolores saw an underclassman step up: freshman Layla Mitchell had 22 digs and three aces. Those 22 digs set a new season-high mark for Mitchell.
Sedgwick County has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season. As for Dolores, their defeat dropped their record down to 25-3.
Sedgwick County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Holyoke on the 15th. Dolores does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
