Preview: Winnfield Tigers vs. Lakeview Gators
Having just played yesterday, the Winnfield Tigers will get right back to it and host the Lakeview Gators at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Winnfield has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 815 points over their last 12 matches.
Winnfield posted their biggest victory since November 28, 2023 on Monday. They breezed by Jonesboro-Hodge on the road to the tune of 70-39. Given Winnfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while Jonesboro-Hodge is ranked 327th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Winnfield had a senior duo take command as Decavian Duncan scored 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals and Cl Davis scored 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Davis hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylon Jackson, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Lakeview's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 69-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mansfield. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Winnfield is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Lakeview, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-5.
Winnfield skirted past Lakeview 54-52 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Will Winnfield repeat their success, or does Lakeview have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
