Softball Preview: Viera Hawks vs. Davenport Broncos
The Viera Hawks will face off against the Davenport Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Viera turned things around against Harmony on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Longhorns with a sharp 13-5 victory.
Viera got a big performance out of Tori Berry, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Farinhas, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Davenport had no problem doing just that on Monday. They never let the Patriots get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Broncos.
Ashanti Pagan made a splash no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs.
In other batting news, Madison Bergeron was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Anyla Davis also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Viera's victory bumped their record up to 15-9. As for Davenport, the win got them back to even at 11-11.
