Baseball Recap: Berea-Midpark Comes Up Short

Berea-Midpark had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 6-8 to make it four. They fell 5-1 to the Avon Eagles. The Titans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 6-4.

As for Avon, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-8. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games.

For Avon's part, Matt Sheldon tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Sheldon a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mateus Porter, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Colten Fitch, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

Coming up, Berea-Midpark will face off against Olmsted Falls at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Avon, they will host Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
