Baseball Recap: Kewaunee Triumphs

Kewaunee won against Southern Door on Tuesday with two runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Storm skirted past the Gibraltar/Washington Island Vikings 2-1. The win continues a trend for the Storm in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won five in a row.

Brett Paulsen was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Diesel Bosdeck, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double was his first of the season.

Kewaunee pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Gibraltar/Washington Island, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kewaunee will welcome Peshtigo at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.75 runs per game on average), something the Storm will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Gibraltar/Washington Island, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Mishicot at 4:00 p.m.
