Baseball Game Preview: Madawaska Owls vs. Hodgdon Hawks

The Madawaska Owls will head out on the road to challenge the Hodgdon Hawks at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Madawaska will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Madawaska had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Washburn on Wednesday. The Owls were the clear victors by a 17-10 margin over the Beavers. The Owls' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Hodgdon came tearing into Wednesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 19-1 win. That looming 19-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Hawks yet this season.

David Tuttle made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Tuttle was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

In other batting news, Hodgdon got a massive performance out of Daniel Henderson, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Henderson is becoming a predictor of the Hawks' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Landon Botting, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Hodgdon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Madawaska's record now sits at 4-2. As for Hodgdon, their record is now 5-3.

Madawaska might still be hurting after the 13-3 defeat they got from Hodgdon in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Owls avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
