Softball Recap: Cumberland Takes a Loss

Cumberland had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 10-11-1 to make it four. They fell just short of the Cameron Comets by a score of 9-8. If the Beavers were looking for revenge after losing 11-1 to the Comets when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Raegan Beecroft and Avery Johnson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Beecroft went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Johnson went 3-for-4 with two runs and one triple. That triple was Johnson's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jayme Bayerle, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

As for Cameron, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games.

On Cameron's side, Emerson Krahenbuhl spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits. Krahenbuhl also set a new season-high mark in RBI with five.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Grace Dexter, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Rayna Schroeder was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

While Cumberland had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
