Softball Recap: Valencia Triumphs

Valencia won the last time they faced Castaic and things went their way on Thursday too. The Vikings had just enough and edged out the Coyotes 7-5.

Emily Contreras tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, Sydney Bolder and Aubrie Jensen did most of the damage at the plate: Bolder went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double, while Jensen went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles Jensen has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Molly Shepard, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Valencia's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Castaic, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-8.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Valencia will take on rival West Ranch at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Castaic is set to square off against their familiar foe Golden Valley at 3:15 p.m. on Monday.
