 After flying high against Charlotte Country Day School  on Thursday, Cannon came back down to earth. The Cannon Cougars fell  7-3 to the Wayne Christian Eagles on Friday. Cannon was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Wayne Christian apparently hadn't forgotten their  defeat the last time these teams played  back in April of 2023.
  Kayce Campurciani was cooking despite her team's loss,   going 2-for-3 with a  home run and two  RBI. Another player making a difference was  Layla Wagner, who  scored a  run while going 1-for-3.
 Even though they lost, Cannon  didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and  finished the game with eight  strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wayne Christian only tossed four.
 On Wayne Christian's side, they got a great performance from  Riley Sutton as she  pitched seven innings while giving up  three earned runs off   nine  hits (she also only allowed one  walk). Sutton has been consistent recently: she hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in five consecutive pitching appearances.
 On the hitting side,  Maddy Sutton and  Ella Fox did most of the damage at the plate:  Sutton  went 2-for-3 with a  home run, two  runs,  and a  stolen base, while  Fox  went 2-for-4 with a  home run, two  runs,  and two  RBI. Sutton has been hot recently, having posted  at least one  stolen base the last four times she's  played.  Michaela Gray was another key contributor,  going 1-for-3 with a  home run and two  RBI.
 Cannon now  has a losing record at 4-5-1. As for Wayne Christian, the  victory for them keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
 The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Cannon beat Wayne Christian by a score of  6-4.
