Softball Recap: Elk Rapids Snaps 11-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Elk Rapids fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Traverse City Central on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 8-7.

Coraline Rainey put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Rainey was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Brooke Fluty was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Rhielynn Skrocki was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Elk Rapids' defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 26-5. As for Traverse City Central, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Elk Rapids will face off against Buckley at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bears will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Elks surely won't give up without a fight. As for Traverse City Central, they will head out on the road to challenge Kingsley at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
