Preview: West Point Pointers vs. King William Cavaliers

West Point is 0-9 against King William since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The West Point Pointers will look to defend their home field against the King William Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

West Point entered their tilt with King & Queen Central with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. West Point breezed by King & Queen Central on the road to the tune of 48-8. The result was nothing new for West Point, who have now won four games by 23 points or more so far this season.

Elijah Adkins continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 146 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.1 yards per carry, and also catching a touchdown. Adkins is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. Gage Davis was another key contributor, throwing for 113 yards and two touchdowns on only eight passes.

King William fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They really took it to Mechanicsville for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-14 victory at home. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 21-0.

King William can attribute much of their success to James Stewart, who rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns, and Jahmari Dupree-Wade, who rushed for 190 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries. Stewart hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. Marty Braxton made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

West Point's win was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.0 points per game. As for King William, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: West Point has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 275.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like King William struggles in that department as they've been averaging 194.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.

West Point was dealt a bruising 48-0 defeat at the hands of King William in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Will West Point have more luck at home instead of on the road?
