Basketball Recap: AJ Curerton Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Riverwalk Academy

On Tuesday, the Walnut Grove Christian Christian Warriors were able to grind out a solid win over the Riverwalk Academy Lions, taking the game 66-59.

Walnut Grove Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was AJ Curerton out in front who posted 25 points. Curerton is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 18 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jake Schlosser, who earned 17 points.

Despite the loss, Riverwalk Academy had strong showings from Austin Thurman, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten boards, and Levi Staton, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 18 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Johnson, who had five points along with six steals and five boards.

Walnut Grove Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.1 points per game. As for Riverwalk Academy, their defeat was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4.

Walnut Grove Christian will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Grace Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Riverwalk Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-27 loss against Lamar on the 19th.
