Softball Recap: Hobbton Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Hobbton made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Clinton, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Dark Horses with a sharp 12-5 victory on Monday. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 12-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Zannah Hairr made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off only two hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Amelia Dial, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Miley McLamb was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.

Hobbton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Hobbton's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-12. As for Clinton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Hobbton will head out to challenge Union at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats are facing the Spartans at the right time seeing as the Spartans are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Clinton, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against St. Pauls at 6:00 p.m. The Dark Horses' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
