The Cheverus Stags are taking a road trip to challenge the Kennebunk Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Cheverus sitting on 14 straight wins dating back to last season and Kennebunk on six.
Cheverus' pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They blew past Massabesic 15-0. The result was nothing new for the Stags, who have now won seven contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Addison DeRoche made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hailey Lamontagne, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Kennebunk made easy work of South Portland on Tuesday and carried off a 12-0 victory. The Rams are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the sixth matchup they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Like Cheverus, Kennebunk also got a great game from a two-way player: Juliann Pike. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Pike was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Talia Kellum was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Katherine Orendorf also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Kennebunk hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive games.
Cheverus pushed their record up to 9-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Kennebunk, their record now sits at 9-2.
Cheverus took their win against Kennebunk when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Stags since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
