Basketball Recap: Sadie Popejoy Key Part of a Team Effort in Warriors Win

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Winamac ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They managed a 57-51 victory over the Delphi Community Oracles. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Warriors also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Winamac to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sadie Popejoy, who posted 25 points and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Popejoy has scored at least a third of Winamac's points. Another player making a difference was Marissa Iverson, who had eight points in addition to 17 boards and four blocks.

Winamac smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

Loss or not, Delphi Community got some senior leadership from Jenna Roth and Maddy Brown. Roth put up 19 points along with five rebounds and five steals, while Brown dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds. That was a full 37.3% of Delphi Community's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Morrow, who had nine points.

Winamac's win bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Delphi Community, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Winamac will square off against Knox at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Knox has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Delphi Community, they will face off against Carroll at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
