Basketball Game Preview: Pleasant Grove Vikings vs. American Fork Cavemen

The Pleasant Grove Vikings will take on the American Fork Cavemen at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pleasant Grove is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.8 points per game this season.

Pleasant Grove is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Lone Peak, who was ranked 12th at the time (Pleasant Grove was ranked 24th). Pleasant Grove fell to Lone Peak 81-75. The Vikings have struggled against the Knights recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Pleasant Grove saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brennan Blackett went 7 of 9 from beyond the arc on his way to 32 points and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Blackett has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Brown, who posted 12 points.

American Fork fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 53-52 victory over Lehi.

American Fork's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-10. As for Pleasant Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.

Pleasant Grove came up short against American Fork when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 67-61. Can Pleasant Grove avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
