Baseball Preview: Canton Little Giants vs. Pekin Dragons
Canton is 2-8 against Pekin since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Little Giants will be playing at home against the Dragons at 4:15 p.m. Canton will be strutting in after a win while Pekin will be coming in after a defeat.
Canton gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over Abingdon/Avon.
Canton's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Colin Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Another was Dane Grzanich, who earned one run and two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Pekin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 13th straight loss. They lost 12-1 to Normal University.
Pekin also got a good showing from Perry Miller, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave Miller a new career-low in walks (one).
At the plate, Mason Hanvey was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
