Baseball Game Preview: Washington Warriors vs. Calumet Chieftains

The Washington Warriors are taking a road trip to square off against the Calumet Chieftains at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Calumet took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Washington, who comes in off a win.

Washington took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They skirted past Woodward 1-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Warriors have posted since March 18th.

Jonathen Montoya tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Washington saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was LD Vinzant, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Calumet's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fort Cobb-Broxton. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Chieftains were not able to get on the board.

Washington pushed their record up to 13-5 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Calumet, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3-1.
