After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Dyer County, Westview was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Crockett County Cavaliers. The Chargers haven't had any issues with the Cavaliers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
McCall Sims spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Westview's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Sarah Byars, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Emillee Collier also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Westview now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Crockett County, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westview will host University School of Jackson at 5:00 p.m. on the 31st. As for Crockett County, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Lexington at 5:30 p.m.
