West Shore recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Rocky River, who took down 193rd ranked Elyria Catholic, 19-0. Martin Finnegan ran for 163 yards in the win.
The Pirates were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in West Shore. Rocky River vanquished the Panthers 19-0 earlier in the week.
Midview's dynamic duo of Cody Callaway and Zac Wilson proved tough for Vermilion to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Callaway threw for 167 yards and three touchdowns and Wilson had 83 yards receiving. Kolby Hirschfelder helped Midview's passing attack out by catching one ball for 42 yards.
The Middies' Callaway and Eric Lauer have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Callaway has thrown for 1367 yards this season, while Lauer, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 28 catches for 610 yards. Rick Adams's team's Finnegan leads the league in rushing yards with 423.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Elyria Catholic takes on Avon. At the moment, Mike Polevacik's team is in third, while the Eagles are in second.
The Pirates moved up to 375 from 485 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in West Shore. A 19-0 win over the Panthers helped Rocky River improve its standing.
