Preview: Sauquoit Valley Indians vs. Cooperstown Hawkeyes
The Sauquoit Valley Indians will head out on the road to square off against the Cooperstown Hawkeyes at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Sauquoit Valley suffered their closest defeat yet this season last Saturday. They fell just short of Oriskany by a score of 46-43. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Sauquoit Valley has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Cooperstown was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 54-50 to Sherburne-Earlville. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Cooperstown came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 257th, while Sherburne-Earlville is ranked 530th).
Charlie Lambert put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 17 points along with six assists and six steals. Lambert is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Bradley, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds.
Sauquoit Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Cooperstown, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-6.
Sauquoit Valley didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Cooperstown in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 63-59 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sauquoit Valley since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
