Baseball Recap: Randolph Drops Season-High Score on Cattaraugus-Little Valley

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Randolph). They blew past the Cattaraugus-Little Valley Timberwolves 21-5 on Monday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Allen Root made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Randolph got a massive performance out of Connor Braley, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. The Cardinals are 2-1 when Braley posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kevin McElwain, who went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs.

Randolph kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Randolph's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 5-7. As for Cattaraugus-Little Valley, their defeat was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-12.

Randolph will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Timberwolves: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
