Baseball Recap: Platte Canyon Huskies vs. Englewood Pirates

Platte Canyon had lost eight straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 3-10 to make it nine. They came up short against the Englewood Pirates, falling 11-4. The Huskies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2018.

Platte Canyon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nathan Laabs, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that Laabs has hit this season.

As for Englewood, the victory got them back to even at 7-7. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Englewood's side, Grant Pebbles was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Pebbles has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Platte Canyon will venture away from home to square off against Estes Park at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Huskies are facing the Bobcats at the right time seeing as the Bobcats are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Englewood, they will head out to take on Denver West at 4:00 p.m. on May 1.
