Basketball Recap: Odem Takes a Loss

Odem was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They fell 38-25 to the Mathis Pirates. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Owls this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 42-26 back in December of 2024.

Adriana Grady was Odem's leading scorer, having posted 12 points. Summer Emerson held things down on the boards with seven rebounds.

Mathis found their leader in sophomore Amerie Smith, who posted 18 points. Kaitlyn Herrera was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Odem's loss dropped their record down to 8-19. As for Mathis, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-11.

Odem has already played their next match (against Aransas Pass), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Mathis will face off against West Oso at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. West Oso will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Mathis surely won't give up without a fight.
